Behentrimoniumchloride is een antistatisch en haarconditionerend middel; het is ook een emulgator. Het is een type trimonium dat kationische ketens aantrekt tot anionische ladingen in de eiwitstructuur van huid en haar, wat een conditionerend effect creëert. Het heeft de neiging niet op te lossen in water, wat betekent dat het op het haar blijft, waardoor het populair is in uitspoelbare haarconditioners. Behentrimoniumchloride is aanwezig in honderden persoonlijke verzorgingsproducten, waaronder conditioner, haarkleurmiddelen, moisturizers, badzeep, mousse en andere items.
